Functie

Als postdoc heeft u een organisatorische taak binnen het onderzoekprogramma Rechtspleging en Conflictoplossing van het Montaigne Centrum en verricht daarbinnen tevens onderzoek.
Binnen het Montaigne Centrum wordt aandacht besteed aan ontwikkelingen in:
a. gerechtelijke procedures en procesrecht;
b. alternatieve vormen van geschiloplossing organisatie en bestuur van de rechtspraak;
d. Europeanisering van de rechtspraak;
e. transitional justice

Werkzaamheden
Participeren in en coördineren van het onderzoek in één of meerdere van de deelgebieden van het zwaartepuntprogramma Rechtspleging en Conflictoplossing.

Profiel

• U bent gepromoveerd op een van de gebieden van het privaatrecht, staatsrecht, bestuursrecht of rechtstheorie.
• U hebt in het bijzonder belangstelling voor en kennis van civiele procedures en/of strafprocedures.
• U hebt ervaring met het verrichten van onderzoek, bij voorkeur op het terrein van de rechtspleging en belangstelling voor een multidisciplinaire benadering daarin.
• Goede organisatorische en communicatieve vaardigheden en uitdrukkingsvaardigheid in het Engels en bij voorkeur ook in een andere buitenlandse taal, tevens blijkend uit Engelstalige publicaties.

Aanbod
Aanstelling geschiedt in tijdelijke dienst voor een periode van 2 jaar. Het salaris bedraagt afhankelijk van opleiding en ervaring minimaal € 3.227 en maximaal € 4.418 (schaal 11) bruto per maand op basis van volledige werktijd.

Introduction to the Seminar

Within the rational choice paradigm, increasing costs of behavioral options is, in principle, an instrument for enhancing compliance. Harsher and more likely to be administered punishment is increasing expected costs. Whether that will or won’t lead to more compliance is, however, dependent on all other costs and benefits that play a role in the cost/benefit balance governing behavioral choices. In general, these various costs and benefits are different for different people. By distinguishing various cases, we can resolve the ongoing debate between law and economics (“punishment works”) and criminologists and penitentiary workers (“punishment does not work”).

About the Speaker

Prof. Henk Elffers graduated in mathematical statistics at the University of Amsterdam and got his Ph.D. in Psychology of Law at Erasmus University Rotterdam (1991), on a thesis on Income Tax Evasion. He held various research appointments at Mathematisch Centrum, now CWI (statistics), University of Utrecht (geography), Erasmus University Rotterdam (socio-legal studies) and University of Antwerp (law and psychology). He presently is a senior-researcher at the Netherlands Institute for the Study of Crime and Law Enforcement NSCR (Amsterdam, the Netherlands), and professor of empirical research into criminal law enforcement at VU University Amsterdam, department of Criminal Law and Criminology.

On Tuesday June 18, 2013, Rebecca L. Sandefur will visit the Paul Scholten Center for Jurisprudence. She will give a lecture on her work on legal professions and access to justice. Prof. Britta Bohler, prof. Jonathan Soeharno and dr. Nienke Doornbos will provide comments. Sandefur is the 2013 Hague Vistiting Chair on Rule of Law  http://www.hiil.org/hague-chair-on-rule-of-law and assistant professor of sociology and law at the University of Illinois School of Law in Urbana-Champaign. She is also Director of Graduate Studies, Department of Sociology, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Senior Research Social Scientist at the American Bar Foundation

Sandefur has published the landmark Access Across America, the first-ever national and state-by-state portrait of the services available to assist the U.S. public in accessing civil justice. The report, released by the American Bar Foundation, was co-authored with University of California-Berkeley Ph.D. student Aaron C. Smyth.

Daarna zal prof. Muel Kaptein van de Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam, tegen de achtergrond van zijn jarenlange onderzoeks- en adviseringservaring in organisaties in de private en publieke sector, reflecteren over de rol die een integriteitsbeleid kan spelen. Hoe kan een organisatie haar personeelsleden ondersteunen in het omgaan met morele dilemma’s? Dan volgen enkele praktijkcasussen uit het werkveld. Dhr. Guido Loenders zal toelichten wat de meerwaarde is van een ethische code en trainingen deontologie bij Toezicht op de Sociale Wetten.Hoofdcommissaris Philip Pirard, korpschef van de politiezone HAZODI, zal vervolgens reflecteren over het belang van ethisch leiderschap bij het remediëren van integriteitsschendingen in een lokale politiezone en het omgaan met ethische kwesties. De studienamiddag wordt afgesloten met een blik naar de toekomst doorCommissaris-Generaal Catherine De Bolle die het beleidsplan zal voorstellen voor een integriteitsbeleid in de Federale Politie.
